LinkedIn

Marek Bočánek is Executive Director at Walletory, a payment institution licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. He has led the company since 2020, focusing on the payment infrastructure that lets prop trading firms and brokers pay traders instantly.

He holds a Doctor of Law (Ph.D. and JUDr.) in Financial Law from Masaryk University, specializing in the regulation of financial markets, and a Doctor of Business Administration in Corporate Management. He is a Certified Islamic Banker (CIBAFI) and a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS).

Alongside his executive role, Marek remains active in academia. He is the author of several publications, including a legal commentary on the regulation of crypto-assets in the European Union, and teaches at the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University, covering the regulation of the payments industry, capital markets, AML/CFT, and crypto-assets.

Before Walletory, Marek spent most of his career in the financial industry, including as Head of the Payments Department and later Chief Executive Officer at Purple Technology, and as a senior lawyer specializing in financial market regulation and tax law. Earlier in his career he also worked as a macroeconomic analyst and in other specialized roles at financial institutions — experience that still shapes how he thinks about what a payout actually needs to do for the person waiting on the other end.
